Prevalence and Antibiotic Resistance Profiles of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Clinical Specimens in Anyigba, Nigeria

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a major public health concern, and it responsible for both hospital community associated infections globally. In this study, we aimed at determining the prevalence pattern of resistance MRSA to commonly used antibiotics in Anyigba, Nigeria. This was based, cross-sectional study conducted between August 2017 February 2018. One hundred fifty routine clinical specimens were collected from selected facilities Anyigba laboratory analyses. Standard methods employed identification isolates. confirmed using Oxacillin Resistance Screening Agar Base (ORSAB) supplemented with 2g/l Oxacillin. determine antibiotic profiles all isolates by disc diffusion method. A total 124 (82.7%) recovered samples obtained. Of these isolates, 28 (22.6%) methicillin resistant. The percentage distribution rate highest (50.0%) urine samples. Majority resistant least four six tested. Most Gentamicin (92.9%), Amoxicillin (100.0%) Cotrimoxazole (85.7%). Our showed significant presence collected, relatively high gentamicin, antibiotics. highlights need monitoring antimicrobial use considering lack innovation development new antimicrobials which lessens efforts combating caused antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
